The
Planning Department is headed by Greg Rushing, PE and reviews
and monitors all new projects, modification of existing structures,
signs, and building permits. The department organizes and
presents information to the Planning Commission and, if a
decision is appealed, to the Board of Zoning Appeals. Once
the Commission or Board approves the project or modification,
the department supervises the review of building plans and
inspections. The
Planning Department also maintains and reviews all Zoning
within the Town.

All
projects, from subdivisions to supermarkets to residential modifications,
are required to gain approval from the Town Planning Department.
The more extensive the project, of course, the more extensive
the review. Minor home modifications can usually be approved
at the staff level without presentation to the Planning Commission.

Form-Based Zoning Code
The
following documents show the final development of the Towns
Form-Based Zoning Codes. This will allow the Town greater
flexibility in what projects are approved for specific areas.
Greater attention is to be placed on the aesthetic qualities
of structures instead of the use of the structure itself. These codes were adopted by Town Council on March 18, 2010.

The Planning Commission meets on the second Monday
of every month at 7:00 pm. Deadlines for submittals are two weeks
prior to the meeting.
